Artists’ Reception: Saturday, April 7 , 5 – 8 pm
In Lightfall Katherine Kean paints atmospheric landscapes in oils and watercolors to give
shape to the invisible forces of life. Storm clouds, branches and wild grasses waving in the wind
are the starting point. These forms suggest something powerful and enigmatic, peaceful and
permanent, beautiful and unknowable that underlies and animates all that lives. Kean's goal is
to explore this “something” that is always changing and always present. She likes to suggest
this through a refinement of pictorial details and with controlled intensity of light and depth of
color. Working slowly, she applyies multiple layers of paint made translucent with the use of
wax, allowing new depths and tones to develop in surprising ways.
